Surprise in Antarctica that NASA detected.

NASA detected an unexpected phenomenon that renews hope for the melting of the ice.

I wrote an article 3 years ago, here on my website Windmush, about this phenomenon. But important news that goes against the general perception often takes time to make an impact. Now, however, “new” findings are emerging about what is really happening.

For more than twenty years, scientists have closely monitored the retreat of the Antarctic ice sheet. However, a new study based on NASA satellite data reveals something unexpected: between 2021 and 2023, the white continent experienced an average growth of about 119 billion tons of ice per year.

This is not big news to me, as there is evidence that the Earth’s life cycle has shown that both ice-covered poles have changed several times over millennia, through increased or decreased ice cover.

Now, of course, this will not be accepted by environmental organizations, which in reality make large sums of money from marketing environmental disasters. It will be exciting to hear what will be said at the upcoming COP30 conference in Brazil later this year. It will certainly be hushed up. As will what happens with the impact of solar activity on weather and the environment.

The analysis, led by a team from Shanghai Tongji University, was based on data collected by the GRACE and GRACE Follow-On missions, which monitor Earth’s gravity to detect changes in ice mass. The researchers observed that, after a prolonged period of melting between 2002 and 2020, there was a significant rebound in the past three years.

A cautious statement has been published: “Although the recent increase in Antarctic ice mass is generating some optimism, scientists caution that this phenomenon is likely temporary and does not alter the overall trend of ice loss due to global warming. Climate anomalies that cause intense snowfall do not offset the sustained impact of rising temperatures, which accelerate melting in other areas of the continent.”

At least, its confirmed that a surprising shift is underway at the bottom of the world. After decades of contributing to rising sea levels, Antarctica’s massive ice sheet has started growing again — at least for now.

I will soon be back with a followup.

Windmush

This blog, Windmush, by Curt is about different "Time Zones" in life. The name Windmush, can be find in old Jack London books about a Husky called Mush, also called Buck. This dog reflects my childhood as I was also left by my parents to live with another family. But by the age of 15 I left to see the world by my own and ....I became Windmush !
