What does the Bible tell about Climate change?

Does the Bible mention extreme weather?

This is not the first time I have written about the ongoing debate regarding weather changes here on Earth (Tellus). I have been criticized by weather companies, who defend their position.

Therefore, I intend to go a little deeper into what happened over 2,000 years ago, before politicians had any influence on social media.

The Bible does not use the modern phrase “extreme climate,” but it extensively records extreme weather, localized climate shifts, and catastrophic environmental events used as instruments of divine judgment or prophecy. The following are examples of extreme weather conditions mentioned in the Bible:

Global flood: The book of Genesis records a torrential downpour lasting 40 days and nights, completely submerging the earth.

Severe droughts: Scripture details multi-year droughts, most notably the seven-year famine in Egypt managed by Joseph, and a three-and-a-half-year drought during the time of Elijah.

Supernatural storms: Outbreaks of destructive weather include the plague of massive hail in Egypt and the violent windstorm that struck Job’s family.

Intense heatwaves: The book of Revelation predicts a period where the sun is given power to “scorch people with fire” and “intense heat”.

Atmospheric darkness: Prophecies in Joel and Luke mention the sun turning to darkness, roaring seas, and “shaking of the heavens”.

Megastorms: Revelation describes apocalyptic weather events featuring 100-pound hailstones.

The Caretaker Role: According to Genesis 2:15, God placed humans in the Garden of Eden specifically to “work it and take care of it”. This establishes mankind as temporary caretakers, not absolute owners, of the planet.

So what is so different with the weather situation today?

I was born in 1948 and as a child experienced both extreme winters and summer months. In addition, in southern Sweden we experienced a number of tornadoes, with devastating effects in forestry.

From 1963 to 1966 I worked as a sailor in the Swedish merchant navy. During that time, I experienced firsthand some of the largest hurricanes and typhoons recorded in the 20th century. Therefore, I have solid evidence for my statements.

Those who know my articles about the COP know that I have followed this organization from its beginnings. It is there that politicians have learned to use the weather as a political issue. Every year, up to 30,000 members meet to discuss how to combat the Earth’s weather with enormous aid funds. Behind the scenes, other negotiations are taking place between top politicians on how to use the new word “Climate change” for political advantage.

It is only recently that the traditional weather maps, which previously consisted of a sun or rain cloud and information about the estimated day and night temperature, have now turned into deep red maps, as a scare for the population.

The Earth’s weather has experienced a change over millennia that is still ongoing today. Of course, humanity may have contributed to air pollution, but even nature’s own animals, especially ruminants, create more “harmful gases” than we do. There is a natural balance within the Earth’s atmosphere that we cannot control.

It is a lack of control that political leaders are now using the weather as a political tool, blaming the population instead of informing them about our sun’s 11-year cycle, which affects the Earth’s magnetic field and therefore also air and ocean currents, which in turn affect the climate.

I expect a lot of criticism from weather agencies, which are usually governed by government funds, but I welcome their input.

Thank you for reading, I will be back soon with my next post.
